What We Saved

Laura lives on the lower decks of a fleet that doesn't remember it's a fleet. Earth is a myth. The lost ships were 'always lost.' Brother John broadcasts daily and his version of history is the only version. Then Laura salvages an old tablet that holds the combined family record of the first generation — Otto and Bliss's writing, plus the documentation Bliss copied from the Green Ship before the split — and the story she grew up on stops being a story she can believe. She joins a resistance built from people who can't afford to trust each other. She does a spacewalk that nearly kills her. She finds rooms in the ship Brother John didn't know existed. And before the fleet reaches the planet it was always supposed to reach, a small craft appears on sensors carrying a being nobody understands and a colony of cats nobody expected. Six ships left Earth. Two arrived. One sky waits.
