Calliope is the daughter of mad scientists, killed by the very monster they created, and everyone at the academy knows it. Aging out of the orphanage with nothing but her wits and a gift for building mechanical solutions, she has to prove she's not doomed to repeat her parents' mistakes. A steampunk YA story about a girl who builds her way out of every corner she's pushed into.
