Damsel Protocol

A dragon passed the exam. Got assigned a damsel. Got assigned a castle. Followed the protocol. Then the rescue never arrived. Eleven years later, the damsel has redecorated, the dragon has learned to cook, and they've built a quiet domestic life out of a bureaucratic arrangement nobody designed for permanence. When a knight finally shows up, neither of them knows what to do with him — or with the fact that the system they've been ignoring still has rules, and the rules say this is supposed to end.
