Wren Calder is the sole maintenance technician at Relay Station Aronnax, four hundred meters under the Pacific, where she keeps alive not just the failing station but her terminally ill partner Nico, whose degenerative nerve condition slows under the weight of ocean pressure. When Pelagic Industrial schedules a decommissioning inspection, Wren has to choose between the nine years of work that nobody sees and the one person she cannot measure.
