Otto got hired to build humanity's exodus vessels by lying about his credentials. Now he's on the generation ship itself with a terminal joint condition, a wife named Bliss who smuggled cats aboard, and a daughter he's raising in the dark between stars. He builds an AI named Susan, confronts the fleet's first crime, and learns that the hardest engineering problem isn't keeping a ship running — it's figuring out how to live when you know the number.
